My father-in-law had to go to the emergency room last night. A CAT scan showed advanced (Grade IV) cancer involving his stomach/liver/lymph nodes and other unspecified sites.
Family is coming together great but we need your prayers. Pop has a poor prognosis and we don't know how long he has yet. He believes in Jesus as his Savior so no problem there but we don't want to say goodbye.

Thank you all for your prayers.
Pop's biopsy is scheduled for 10:00 am CST. Our family is pulling together very well, and the teens and their mom are working together again reasonably well (considering we are dealing with teens, here). Pop is keeping strong.
Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that You guide the surgeons as they perform Pop's biopsy, giving them the skill and wisdom needed to perform a safe and useful procedure. Please give the anesthesiologist the wisdom and skill to give Pop a smooth and safe induction, anesthetic time, and recovery. Please give Pop more strength and grace to fight this cancer. Please give Mom and the rest of us Your grace, peace and strength as we walk with You through this situation. In Jesus' name, Amen.

The biopsy was done & Pop did very well. The surgeon decided to biopsy Pop's liver instead of the tumor in his stomach. I was not able to be there, so the surgeon was talking to my family; he said that he would get a better idea of what is going on with the liver biopsy instead of a biopsy of the stomach mass.
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for guiding the surgeon and giving Pop and all the rest of my family strength and peace. I praise You for all that You have done so far, and for what I know You will do for us all in the future. In Jesus' name, Amen.

I read the biopsy report yesterday, after the doctor called & gave the results to Mom (in-law). I had to see it in print to accept the reality.
The biopsy showed an undifferentiated adenocarcinoma, with probable original sites: urinary tract, stomach, pancreas, and gall bladder. Pop has an appointment with an oncologist on Monday.
Thank you for all of your encouragements and prayers. I have have not lost my parents, and I believe that this is so hard for me because I am very close to my in-laws. My only brother went to be with God a few years ago, and I never would have been able to make it through that without the knowledge that I would see my brother again. I do not know how someone who does not believe in God can go through life knowing that they will not see a loved one ever again after the loved one dies.

Pop had a bad weekend and very bad night. Went in for trouble breathing; they kept him & he had another cat scan, bone scan, and upper GI endoscopy. All showed more masses in both sides of chest, generalized enlarged lymph nodes & fluid in his chest and abdomen. Bloodwork showed liver failure. The doctor who performed the endoscopy did a great job; a very compassionate man who communicates well, but he had some very bad news to tell us. This doctor explained that these types of cancers that start were Pop's was at are extremely aggressive & that hospice care is the next step. He then said that they do not call for hospice unless there is less than 6 months left. I do not think it will be that long.
Last night, Pop was in and out of conciousness. Apparently soiled himself; Pop is very private and very clean so that is something that would not happen at all if he could help it. Hospital called Mom early this am and told her she needed to be there. I will be going after my last appointment this am. I hope Pop will be able to come home before the end but right now I have to admit that I do not know if this will happen.
Dear Heavenly Father;
Thank You so very much for all the strength You are giving us. Thank You for all the wisdom and guidance You have given the doctors and nurses. You are so caring; You have sent several people and they have helped us deal with our pain. You have kept those whose presence would be troublesome away; thank you, because the last thing we need is to bail my Hubby out of jail! I praise You more because I know that You will make sure that Pop is with You after he is gone. It makes me so sad, but it is such a relief to know that I will see Pop again that I can deal with this pain. Thank You! As always, I will talk to You again soon........amen

Paul prayed and the Lord answered, "My Grace is sufficient..." God's wonderful Grace. Just when we think we haven't the strength or fortitude to put one foot in front of the other...the Lord sends Grace, Peace and Strength in abundance.
I pray this for you...His wonderful Grace, Peace, and Strength...
In the Lord's Name, Amen.

Father God may You envelope each of these precious ones with Your love, draw them near, hold them close, and minister peace and comfort during the hours ahead. Father we pray for a miracle of healing that this disease would be removed, and this Brother would be healed and fully restored, in Jesus' name. We pray for Thy will and that You would provide wisdom and compassion for the caregivers, and an ever deepening measure of faith and Your blessed assurance to all in need. In the name above all names, our Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
You and your dear ones will continue to be in our heart and prayers.
