Let's take a quick inventory, shall we? Rhetorical question...gonna do it.
Watch this...
"And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
All these are the beginning of sorrows." Matthew 24:4-8
and that's just for starters brothers, sisters, ladies, gentlemen, and others...
Jesus goes on to say,
"Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." Matthew 24:9-12
How many of these things Jesus described are we seeing today...
Well, let's see,
People claiming to be Jesus...or saviors of one kind or another...check Wars and rumors of wars...Check Rise in prejudices...check One country rising up against another...check famines...check pestilence, or plagues, world wide pandemics...check earthquakes all over the world...check Now Jesus said that was just for starters... He goes on to say... Christians judged, persecuted, hated...check Many will be offended, will hate and betray each other...check false prophets, and people falling for their lies...check evil abounding...check love growing cold...check
"But Murph," you say, "hasn't it always been this way? From the beginning of time?"
Yes...but those things were regional...what we are seeing today is world wide...all the way across the boards, it is occurring everywhere all at the same time...
but here is the linchpin...the piece of the puzzle that fell into place May, 1948...that started God's time piece ticking again.
"Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled." Matthew 24:32-34
The fig tree is another name for Israel. Jesus tells us that when Israel is yet just a young nation again... Israel was conquered by the Romans and fell in the first century, 70AD, and didn't exist for 2000 years. In 1948 the United Nations issued a proclamation creating the new state of Israel...and the Jews started to go home.
When this happens the Lord said...
we need to look up because He is very close to coming back...
Even at the doors.
Time is growing short. If you haven't made your decision to follow Jesus yet...today would be a whale of a good time to do it...
because,
In my mind I can see Him standing at the doors...with His hand on the handle.
As my brother and friend Mike Ferrell says...Shhhhh...whose foot steps are those I hear?...
And my brother and friend Keith Weaver says...
tick...tick.....tick....tic.......ti.......t......

Was going to write about the Sunday School lesson I was going to teach this Sunday...but like Jude who set out to write a Gospel...and wound up writing the book of Jude, I set out to teach a lesson and this is what came out...
I think the Holy Spirit has a message for us all...
Consider and pray.
"...except there come a falling away first..." 2 Thessalonians 2:3
falling away from what? Watch this...
"Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ." 2 Thessalonians 2:14
What does Paul tell us to do...
"Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle." 2 Thessalonians 2:15
But the prophecies in the Bible tell us...there will come a falling away. Professing Christians, pastors, teachers, churches...will stray from the teaching in the Bible and...
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."
I firmly believe this is what we are seeing today. Sometimes get aggravated, and sometimes down right horrified, and sometimes angry at what I am seeing and hearing coming from the churches. I call it the "rape of the Gospel" once delivered to us.
Paul almost shouts at us from across the centuries...and thru the gates of Heaven,
"I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine." 2 Thessalonians 4:1-2
Christians today are listening to the world instead of to the Lord...studying the words of man instead of the Word of God...
I think they are afraid...afraid to tell the truth, afraid they will offend, afraid of persecution...afraid of death...not realizing the Lord warned us. The world isn't going to like us any more than it did Him.
"If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you." John 15:18
Remember this brothers and sisters and be brave and strong in the Lord..."...they loved not their lives unto the death." Revelation 12:11c
Lord gave these instruction to us...the saints of the End Times.
"Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried.. be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life." Revelation 2:10
as for sitting on our collective behinds and not standing for the Gospel...for what the Bible teaches. Get up!!! Ye Saints of God and stand and deliver!!!
Jesus never intended for us to lay down and let the world roll over top of us... Lord said...
"Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves." Matthew 10:16
Most Christians read "harmless as doves," and they get that. Humble, loving, caring but strong, brave and presenting the Gospel message.
Moses was humble, Abraham was humble, Paul was humble, our example in life Jesus, was humble. But I wouldn't mess with any of them...would you?
Now watch this. "...wise as serpents..."
Think about a snake. They are basically peaceful animals. The are not usually aggressive. But they will stand and deliver if they have to, they will attack, they will defend, when they, or their territory, or off spring are threatened. They can pack a powerful punch...and a powerful venom. Like the song...but wise enough to know when to hold 'em, when to fold 'em, and when to walk away..."shake the dust."
We are to be like that. Think on that...and it is why Jesus gave these instructions...
"Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one." Luke 22:36.
Lord told us to defend ourselves. Consider that.
"...Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come..." Revelation 1:4
Let the Church say, Amen.

It has occurred to me that things from here on are not going back to normal...not going to get better...are going to get progressively worse. It's all in the Bible and things are going right by the Book.
"Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?" Matthew 24:3,]/b] the disciples asked Jesus that day sitting on a hill across from the Temple in Jerusalem. Here is His answer.
"And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
All these are the beginning of sorrows." Matthew 24:6-8
"All these are the beginning of sorrows..."
"...as travail upon a woman with child." 1 Thessalonians 5:3
beginning of sorrows...
What we are seeing today...is just the beginnings of sorrows like a woman in labor.
The pains start, the beginnings of sorrow. They come again...and again...increasing on occurrence, in speed, and pain, and duration.
Until..."sudden destruction cometh upon them..." Matthew 24:3
What we are seeing right now is only going to get worse. It is not going to get better.
Not a popular message but the true one.
Now listen to Paul...he is going to tell us a secret...
"But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17
Paul is describing what the Bible calls the "snatching away"...we call it the "Rapture." What a glorious and wonderful day that will be for all Christians from the Day of Pentacost to the moment the Trumpet sounds!
Now you see why true Christians are sitting on the edge of our seats...and looking to the east. We know the Lord is coming and soon, so we have peace, joy, and anticipation no matter how rough it gets.
Lord said...
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know... Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:1-4, 6.
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27
Lord is coming...He is at the door.
Things will not go so well for you unbelievers...you will see the wrath of God unleashed on the earth. It will be a horrifying, terrifying time.
Now would be a very good time to decide to follow Christ so when you hear the shout and the trumpet...you will be coming with us to be with Jesus in Heaven and far far away from the horrors on the earth.
"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17.
but unbelievers on the earth will hear this...
"But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision." Psalm 59:8
The Creator of the universe and all that is in it...laughing at the heathens.

So many people...many of them Christians, are so disturbed by all that is going on in the world around us today. They are anxious, frustrated, and afraid.
There is a story in the Old Testament, 2 Kings 6, that keeps coming to my mind... Here's what was going on.
The King of Syria suspected Elisha the Prophet of being a spy and so sent his troops to arrest Elisha and bring him in to the King's Court.
Let's pick the story up from the Bible...and see what was happening.
Troops came to Elisha's home in the town of Dotham. Elisha's servant went out early in the morning and saw all the troops. He was terrified and wanted to know what they could do.
"Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.
And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?" 2 Kings 6:14-15
Love Elisha's answer...
"And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them." 2 Kings 6:16
and look at what Elisha did...he prayed...after all it is the best weapon we have.
"And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see." 2 Kings 6:17
And the Lord allowed the servant to see...and this is what he saw.
"And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha." 2 Kings 6:18
The mountains were full of Angels and magnificent horses...and not just any Angels...these were part of God's own mighty army!
If we could see now, if the Lord allowed us to see what is all around us...I think that is what we would see, Legions of Angels with magnificent horses sent to see us thru.
and we would know to...
"...Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them." 2 Kings 6:16
"The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalm 27:1
Amen.
Now go ahead...praise the Lord and pass the ammo!

Some things in this life are so incredibly sad...
A young man from our church lost his battle with covid last night. Brian was only in his 40s. He and his girlfriend both had covid and both are now with the Lord.
So we come together as a church to comfort his family...and each other. We hold each other a little closer...and say I love you a little more often.
We remember what the Lord told us, what Paul told us, and we walk on. We know this...
"But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him." 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14.
But for today we will "Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep..." Romans 12:15.
We rejoice in knowing a brother has gone home...but for a while we will grieve that he is no longer here.
We will meet again...and there is peace, and hope, and comfort in that thought.
Amen.

"And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed." Luke 17: 26-30
It was a beautiful drive home from church today and as I enjoyed the drive I was planning the rest of my day, what I would eat for lunch, and what I would drink, need to balance my checkbook, where will we take our Sunday afternoon ride, what I would do on Monday...
Quantem leap...you ready?
Then the above passage occurred to me...just how bad had it become in Noah and Lot's day before Judgment fell and God unleashed His judgment and wrath compared to today?
People were doing exactly what they are doing today...oblivious to what time it is according to God's timepiece...
They don't study the Bible so they don't know. When we try to tell them they play shoot the messenger or ignore us altogether.
These are the times described in the prophecies written about in the Bible...that the prophets and Jesus described...
Then my mind went back to my original question...just how bad did it get in the Days of Noah and in the days of Lot compared to how bad it is today?
Remembered the last hymn we sang at church today..."Go tell it on the Mountains"...that was the Lord's answer to my question.
Go tell. Not a request, a command!
Amen.

These are things that are occurring to me as I watch and listen to what is going on in the world today...things Jesus and the prophets said.
"And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows." Mark 13:7-8
"And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows." Matthew 24:6-8
"And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass? But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by. Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven." Luke 21:5-6
"And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed." Luke 17:26-30
"But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape." 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3
"...All these are but the beginning of the birth pains..." Matthew 24:7-8
This is what the prophetic time is and what led me to say..."Normal isn't coming back. Jesus is."
Amen.

Looking thru the third lens of the Bible...
This is what's in store for us...Christians, for the church, believers from the Day of Pentecost to the moment we hear the shout and last trumpet...
"Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed." 1 Corinthians 15:51-52
"Rabbit trail"..."last trump." During the Exodus the Hebrews used a trumpet sound to signal what should be going on each morning they were to move out. There were trumpet blasts that acted as cues...one to wake, one to have breakfast, one to pack...and so on to the last trumpet sound...which meant to move out.
It might signal two things for us today prophetically speaking...one being the Rapture...and the second for the Jews to move up and again take center stage for their part in God's plan during the tribulation period.
This is where we are on our journey thru the End Times.
We are nearing that moment and it should have us doing two things...sitting on the edge of our pews, and shouting the Gospel message at the top of our lungs to anyone and everyone!
We have come to call what Paul is describing in 1 Corinthians 15 as "The Rapture".
First a shout and a trumpet sound...and then just like that, in the blink of an eye...the church will be gone from the earth and will be marching down the Main Street of Heaven, Amen!
Things on earth are getting bad, worse and worse every day, which leads to the question...just how bad did it get in the days of Noah and in the days of Lot before judgment came?

"But Murph," you say, "the Bible says we won't know the day nor the hour."
"But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." Matthew 24:36
That's true but the Bible does say this...
"Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh." Matthew 25:13...so we watch, with a trowel in one hand and the Sword of the Lord in the other.
Here is something Jesus said...
"The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?" Matthew 16:1-3
Back in another time in my life before I retired, I had to make trips to our regional office which at the time was in Roanoke. It was a long drive to make in the morning and I made it on the back roads...a short cut. So my mind would wonder as I rode along.
Then I would perk up as I started to see signs that I was nearing my destination. A sign advertising a restaurant-10 miles on the left, a used car lot-6 miles on the right, a clothing store-4 miles on the left, a convenience store-3 miles on the right...
I didn't know exactly what time I would arrive at my destination but I could see signs that I was getting close.
That is what it is like for us today. We don't know the day or hour...but we can clearly see the signs that we are nearing our destination...
droughts on the right, earthquakes on the left, racial unrest on the right, wars and rumors of war in the left, pandemic on the right, corruption every where, homosexuality accepted as normal, abortion accepted or murder leagalized...the signs are all there.
"Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ..." Titus 2:13
Jesus is coming. Are you ready?

Having a discussion on messendger on Fb about the passage in Ephesians 4:11. Needed to write my reply to that persons statement...and decided to do it here.
they said...
"Since prophets are mentioned here In Ephesians 4:11, "the apostle Paul tells us that Jesus gave apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers to the church" ; and you say that true prophets died...... then apostles, evangelists, pastors and teachers must have died out as well! I don't need a dissertation concerning this; this scripture immediately came to me with what you said. What you said didn't line up with the bible from my perspective. Just saying."
My answer...
Haven't dealt in apologetics in quite a while...I don't debate any more, but will give it my best shot.
From your perspective there would still be apostles on the order of Peter, John, Paul...and so on, as in the 1st century church, and prophets like Joel who you quoted. I am saying there aren't. If they exist, then who are they?
Now watch this...
"And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers..." Ephesians 4:11
The gifts mentioned in this verse are different from most of those listed in 1 Corinthians 12. In that passage the gifts, for the most part, are bestowed on believers. In this Ephesians passage, they are bestowed on the universal church rather than on the local church...
The gifts of apostles and prophets were foundational, Ephesians 2:20, and are unique to the early church. We have missionaries and preachers today but we don't have apostles and prophets. Those gifts were temporary and transitional, intended to help the church become established according to the Holy Spirit's plans.
There were primary apostles and secondary apostles. The primary apostles were called and commissioned by the Lord as His "sent ones." The primary apostles were men who had seen the Lord, and had been with Him...who were eye witnesses of His resurrection. Their task was to impart the New Testament truth to the church by direct inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
Secondary apostles...men like Barnabas, Timothy, and Silvanus...were intimately linked with the primary apostles.
The prophets spoke by direct illumination of the Holy Spirit. Their work was essential too. Their task was to spread New Testament truth before the completion and distribution of the New Testament. The Holy Spirit empowered the prophets to spread truths...already revealed to the apostles, to local congregations. Occasionally the prophets foretold things to come...like their Old Testament counterparts. But they foretold truth already revealed by the Holy Spirit but not yet in general circulation...
I don't agree with you, nor you with me...so we will just have to agree to disagree till the trumpet sounds and the Lord straightens us both out. Till then I will bid you adieu.

A friend and Christian brother asked a good question. He had posted a meme about the Conception of Christ being unplanned. I disagreed and said it clearly was planned by God and intentional. His reply was that Mary didn't plan it...and then he asked this question.
"I have to ask because I struggle. How, do you square incest and rape pregnancy?" my friend asked.
So with the help of the Holy Spirit I am going to try to answer him.
*****************************************************************************
God knows us before He forms us in the womb.
"Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee..." Jeremiah 1:5a
This passage speaks to God’s active role in our creation and formation in the womb.
"For thou hast possessed my reins: Thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Marvellous are thy works; And that my soul knoweth right well.
My substance was not hid from thee, When I was made in secret, And curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; And in thy book all my members were written, Which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. Psalm 139:13-16
We are all created in His image...
"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Genesis 1:26-27
Abortion is murder. It is the killing of a human being created in the image of God.
A child who is conceived through rape or incest is as much made in the image of God as any other human. That child’s life should be protected just as much as the life of any other human being. The circumstances of conception never determine the worth of a person or that person’s future. The baby in this situation is completely innocent and should not be punished for the evil act of his or her father.
Rape and incest are the result of sin and in no way the fault of the child.
But what I think my friend is really asking is...why does God allow sin.
