God bless you; My son Drew R., got interested in bowling when he was going to Emporia State. When I was hired as Caretaker in '88 I stuck my ball and shoes in the closet and did not figure to take them out again. They needed another bowler and Rob asked me if I would like to bowl with them. I took out the ball and shoes after 13 years, and we started bowling. It was interesting because my shoes were 30 years old and older than some that I was bowling with. I went by my middle name Doug as Rob was already registered as Drew. It was fun to bowl with him. This is a picture of us with our plaques when we won the doubles in the men's city tournament. Rob is 6' and weighs-in at about 195. In the summertime I wear a hat and tinted safety glasses, and tend to look like a reverse raccoon : Rob carries a 195-200 average, I carry 205-210 for the last 4-5 years. Twenty years ago I had a high game of 278. Rob had shot 279. I kept telling him I was going to catch him. A few weeks ago I threw seven in a row, a 9 spare and then struck out for a 279. Two weeks later Rob bowls 12 in a row for his 300. Now the old feller has to catch-up again... It is alot of fun, and I am bowling with guys I bowled against 30 years ago, and now their sons and grandsons are also bowling with us. I was measured for my ring last night. A week ago I started the first game off with a strike and then they just seemed to keep falling down for all ten frames, until I had 12-in-a-row. Below is a picture of Rob's 300 ring which is given by the USBC. I ordered mine identical so that we would have a matched set.

Oh Drew, what a good picture of you and your son. Congrates on the perfect game! I used to bowl (duck pins) with my mother. I bowled on TV one time when I was a kid. I think the name of the show was Pin Busters.. The ring is so very pretty. How nice you both have one. I got your email, sorry i didn;t answer, but I have been praying for all needs and concerns.. I am sure something great will turn up for your boy. Maybe he should try pro-bowling. ;D Brother Drew, you are a blessing to me....and have been for many years now. I can't wait to hug your neck... God bless you and all your loved ones!

God bless you (((((((Sis)))))));
I don't come on-line without thinking of you and Art, for you will always be in heart and most fervent prayers. I worry about you with this economy and so many out of work in your area.
That is so awesome to have bowled on tv, and with your Mom.
As long as Rob wants to bowl with his Dad I will be there. When he decides to quit my ball immediately goes into the closet.

Every Sunday evening we gather at Wilsey Calvary Chapel for a fellowship dinner at 5:00PM, praise and worship at 6:00, and an hour of Bible study from about 6:30 to 7:30. This allows others from other churches to gather with us. All of my children and grandchildren are there so it is a weekly family time. Last Sunday Jan was making a chocolate layer cake, for the fellowship, and for frosting she mixes chocolate pudding with cool whip. She put our granddaughter Lexi in the high chair and filled a cone with the frosting. Lexi just turned 14 mos. She really enjoyed the cone, but then it made her a bit sleepy:

Awww, how cute! Congrats on the game, by the way. The closest I ever got to a perfect game when bowling league was in the 250's. Ahhh, the good ole' days... ;D

Bless her heart.
I put mine in the floor with a big wooden spoon and the frosting bowl. This is usually immediately followed with a bath...in the kitchen sink.
What a blessing they all are, children and grandchildren. This Wednesday...tomorrow, I will be keeping my 2 month old grandson for the first time...I keep him on Wednesdays and his retired Granddad... on Fridays because his Dad and Mom work late those two days.
I look forward to those "frosting baths" with Sam...Love Becks, my granddaughter, with all my heart, but have missed having a little boy to play with.
Seeing you with yours! Grand. Matching rings...precious.

God bless you; Well another Memorial Weekend is in the history books. It was pretty hectic here but from the previous weekend the Hand of God was upon us. I had to install a siphon tube to de-water 250,000 gallons off our waste water lagoon. To do that I had to get permission from the KDHE, have a lab kit sent in, start the tube, take a grab sample, and drive two hours to a lab in Salina. I decided to have the lake truck serviced on Monday, prior to the drive. I drove in Monday to be first in line for servicing. Up on the rack the mechanic discovered that my lower right ball joint was completely blown-out and wedged in place, and the upper left was so worn that you could move the top of the tire in and out. A brake job was late getting there and they worked me right in. Four ball joints and an idler arm. But for the grace of God I could have been 60 miles from home driving 70 miles per hour when a front wheel suddenly turns sideways on I-70. Monday afternoon the fire call sounded for a two story house fire in Americus, (about 13 miles east). We responded two trucks to assist and when we got there the fire was knocked-down but the firefighters were staggering out the door from exhaustion. There were still hot-spots flaring up in the rafters and ceilings. I popped on the airpack and went in with a couple of fresh guys. We wade through the smoke and began ripping down drywall and dousing flaming rafters. Got it all knocked-down and went through two air bottles,(20 minutes each if even breathing). Got it mopped-up and returned to station. No injuries in the fire. The next morning It took a couple of tries to get out of bed, old curmudgeon + 80 pounds of gear for 40 minutes = creaking joints and complaining muscles.... Assembled and started the siphon tube, took my sample to the lab, and back to the lake safely. Mowed the high points around the lake and got ready for the weekend from Friday afternoon through Monday. Lovely weather and a large volume of boats to inspect, and permit, lots of activity, but had no corrections on boating operation. It was Sunday afternoon about 4:00 that I had a report of a rollover south of the lake. I was praying for the people as I drove the two miles to the corner. The EMS, SO and Fire were already on the scene,(out of our district), and all I wanted to do was to see if there was anyone needing to be contacted at the lake. The 1999-2004 green Chevy Blazor was crosswise in the road, with a blown right rear tire, and was crushed-in all over. The corner is a "T" with the east-west road bisecting the north-south. There is a hill coming down to the "T" from the east, and the surfaces are creek gravel. They EMS were working in the male driver in the north ditch, about 30-40' west of the vehicle. The woman was in the vehicle on the passenger side. Debris was strewn for 75+ feet back up the road, including some empty beer cans. The officer said that the woman had called her son on the cell phone and there was no one to contact. The helicopters landed across the road in the pasture and life-flighted to Wichita. Too much speed on gravel multiple rolls and he had been ejected and flung 30-40' from the vehicle. He was barely responsive, and on O2 with an airway. Until Jan just spotted the newspaper report I did not know if he had lived. I thank God for their survival and also for keeping all others safe on the roadway to and from. Another Memorial weekend in the books and I have enjoyed a day off today. emporiagazette.com/news/2009/may/26/two_lifeflighted_wesley/Tuesday, May 26, 2009 A one-vehicle rollover accident late Sunday afternoon in Chase County sent two people, including one Emporian, to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where one remained in critical condition today. According to Chase County Sheriff's Deputy Ryan White, Carlos Vasquez Herrera was driving near Kahola Lake in Chase County when the vehicle overturned at Road 290 and Road Z, about 3 miles west of the Lyon-Chase County line. "He’s very lucky to be alive," White said. "He was thrown clear of the vehicle." A passenger, Lourdes Carreon of Emporia, was wearing a seat belt. "That saved her life, that's for sure, or was a major contributing factor to it," White said. Both victims were taken by LifeTeam helicopters to Wesley. Ages were not yet available either Herrera or Carreon, nor was Herrera's home town. Herrera's condition was upgraded from critical to serious late this afternoon. A Wesley spokeswoman said medical personnel expected he would be transferred soon from the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, where he is undergoing treatment. Carreon was reported in good condition. The accident remains under investigation.

It was 'sposed to be a holiday ya' know... ;D The next morning It took a couple of tries to get out of bed, old curmudgeon + 80 pounds of gear for 40 minutes = creaking joints and complaining muscles.... Oh yeah, home made ice cream and cherry pie.
Btw, I actually have "got the t-shirts"...that say Dept of Justice...Probation and Parole Officer...

Ice cream and cherry pie, mmmmm! ;D We just stayed home, ate junk food and turned in early. Nita had to go in an hour early yesterday due to the holiday. They were expecting a backlog of prescriptions. They'd filled over 800 when she left at 5 o'clock and they were still open till 9. Haven't heard what the total was. I've still got my badge. Used to take it out and look at it. Haven't in quite awhile. Haven't felt the need to reminisce...

Ice Cream and cherry pie are singing my song!!!!! It is a bit rough on the big three: Memorial, the 4th of July, and Labor Day, but I am able to kick-back and savor the fall and winter holidays, with so much to be thankful for on Thanksgiving. It is His strength, mercy and love which keeps this old feller going. It is the ministry to which my Lord has called me for the last 21 years. It was Sunday night that I was typing in a few responses and scanning sites, and I was too tired to sleep, and ached a bit. Coffee on about 2:30, and I finally got to sleep about 4:00 AM and then got up at 6:00 on Memorial Day. So had a leisurely day Tuesday and kicked-in with bookwork today, besides sneaking onto BBs... It makes no difference what ever comes. As long as He wants me here I will do my best. When He says that it is time to go Home or to move-on then that is what I will do. It is so amazing the ministry that He has provided. Sunday morning I waded and pulled a bit of a log out from under a dock. Dr. and Mrs. C.... have a lovely lake home. Three story native stone house, with native stone matching garage and boathouse, and a wharf type dock. The last time the rains hit and the lake flooded a dead tree had wedged under their dock. The base of the tree was about 15' out in front of the dock and was about 18-20" in diameter. It ran trough their dock with the limb over the top of their boat track coming out of their boathouse. They could not launch their boat, nor are they physically able to move the tree floating in the water. I looked it over, and then docked and waded their ramp. I shoved the tree about 10' farther out in the lake by hand, climbed into the boat and moved to the base. It was too big to get my arm under so I flopped my tow rope with hook over the log, reached under with my boat hook, and fetched the hook end up and lassoed the feller. Towed it over to the beach area and when it grounded I waded out an unhooked Next weekend I have about a dozen to drag-out with my tractor. The tree was between 25 and 30 feet long and I looked like a tug boat with Queen Mary in tow. Towed a new Tahoe SUV out of the ditch on Monday about noon. I went down and bull dozed the brushpile with the tractor to make room and a father and his sons parked on the road to walk down and go fishing. The trouble was he pulled over too far and went down into a deep ditch. They could hardly push their doors up to get out. Was right there with my tractor and chain. Had to pull them out backwards as just ahead of them the ditch went really deep into a gully. Hooked onto their ball-hitch and they rolled right back and out, unscathed. There was a family fishing on their pontoon just east of me, when I was sitting down on my jetty, watching the boat traffic and half asleep about mid afternoon on Monday. The winds picking up a bit, and they go to start the motor and the starter bendix sticks, All they get is a buzz. They are being blown into shore as the paddles come out. I jump into my boat, swing-out and hook my tow hook onto their front loop. Got them towed over to the boat ramp and took the father back to his cabin for the truck and boat trailer. Just kind of keeps it a bit interesting, and it is the Lord God who so often has perfect timing and the proper tools and skills in the right place.

God's perfect timing. We're seeing that more and more on a personal level. When we need a hand, some encouragment or a simple blessing, He has never failed to come through. What's so amazing to me is He doesn't always answer when WE thought He would, but always when it's needed. I can't count on all my fingers and toes the number of times that's happened.
That's why I don't worry about anything anymore. I simply set back, relax and say 'Lord, I don't know what You're going to do, but I know You're going to take care of this for our benefit and Your glory, so I'll thank You ahead of time.'

Amen to all that Keith and Drew. It is true that the Lord has ordered our steps and if we follow, it all seems to work out right in the end. I still have my badge too...I know where that is. Am both blessed and proud to do the work the Lord asked me to do. When my Dad died in 1979, I was working in SC at a YMCA. Took what I thought would be a year's sabatical to come home to VA. to help my Mom. There are just two of us but my sister wasn't in a position to move back home. A sabaticle is not paid so I had to find some kind of work to support two children and myself. I sent out almost 60 resumes and applied for jobs all over the place...and it was no go. Finally, after months of looking, down to my last $200.00, living in my mother's house with 2 children, bills to pay ...and no job or job prospects I got down on my knees and asked the Lord to show me what He wanted me to do. I told Him I would do my best at whatever He wanted me to do. If it was digging ditches I would dig the best and straightest I could... Two weeks later was my first day on the job that I had for 30 years...it was a double blessing. I got my Dad's job and took his place as a Probation and Parole Officer. So that badge means alot to me... When I knew I could just about afford to retire, if I was very careful with my finances...I prayed hard to the Lord about retirement. I asked Him if it was OK for me to lay that battle flag down... He didn't stop me so on January 31, 2009 I became a private citizen...retired. I, for the first time am a full time Mom and GrandMom. I have been so blessed with joys and sorrows both in my life...there is no way to express it except to do a dance of joy! and say, Praise the Lord! Amen! Yep I got the t-shirt and a Badge! and a Place in Gloryland that out shines the sun! ;D

Amen, amen and amen! Bless you Marilyn. And speaking of the Lord's timing, here's one for you: Two hours ago I received an email from Dr. David Reagan of Lamb and Lion Ministries[/url]! I've only spoken with him once and that was a couple of years ago. This time here's all he said, "I have a book I would like to send to you, but I need a mailing address." I've no idea what brought this about or what it is, but I'm sure the Lord's got a wonderful blessing in store as I respect David's teachings very much. Can hardly wait to find out and I'm giddy with anticipation! ;D

Amen! I love it when the Lord is on a roll! ;D I am retired and as DB suggested I am now getting "re-tired." Am now certified to do disaster recovery work and as a Chaplin thru the State Missions Board, Director of the SS at my church and still teaching SS. This Site and several others are so valuable to me. Our Pastor heard Joel Rosenberg interviewed on a TV show and started asking about him. Found out that I have all his books and borrowed some of them and my copy of the DVD, "Epicenter." Sunday evening after this, we are going to show the DVD at church and start a study. I am super excited about that. I am very excited to see what book you are being sent!!! so ya better share with us!!!

Just kind of keeps it a bit interesting, and it is the Lord God who so often has perfect timing and the proper tools and skills in the right place. When we get to Heaven, I will have a wonderful story to tell all of you about how you have helped me trust in God more than ever. I have been given peace from the posts that you have all given here to stand and face the trial that Hubby and I had today (another face to face with 2 IRS auditors). But all went well because we trusted in God alone and not anyone or anything else. It all boils done to learning from your elders, I guess...... ;D.......now I don't mean anything negative by that elders bit. I have always believed that there is quite a bit for me to learn about dealing with life's situations from people who have been through tough times already.

I'm so thankful you found comfort and encouragment Donna. It's human nature to worry, but the reason we have trials is to grow in our trust of the Lord (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)... It all boils done to learning from your elders, I guess...... ;D........ HEY! I'M SITTIN' RIGHT HERE! ;D ;D ;D

It seems to to be a two way street Donna...we support and learn from each other. I admire that ya'll have persevered thru all the IRS trials...
I count you as a blessing, friend and sister.
