In Flanders Fields
By Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918) Canadian Army
IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.
Memorial Day 2007
From the Revolutionary War to today, Christian men and women have put their personal lives on hold and laid their lives in the Hand of God, picked up a gun and gone to war.
The Bible tells us there are only two reasons why as Christians we should go to war. We go to war to prevent greater evil and to go to the defense of the oppressed and poor…down-trodden.
Today we are engaged in war to do both. Americans are serving on several fronts with Afghanistan and Iraq being the two most active. There is a major offensive going on in Iraq.
Regardless of your position on these war fronts pray today for our soldiers serving at home and around the world. Pray for their families. Pray for our leaders. Pray for a rapid resolution.
In Jesus Name
Amen.

Least we forget all those men and women who laid down their lives for us...Lord we thank you for all of them...
I was thinking about what Colin Powell said when someone accused the United States of wanting to dominate the world and going to war only to gain land...he said...
"The only land we have ever asked for is enough to bury our dead..."
Amen... and poppies grow there...
