Was teaching from Jeremiah 50 yesterday. As you recall it is the Oracles of Babylon and talks about the fall of Babylon to Persia.
was talking thru the following...Jeremiah 24-25, 44
"I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against the Lord..."
is how that passage starts out...
Belshazzar and his princes were throwing a party thinking they were invincable...
The Persian army under Cyrus, meanwhile, damned up the Euphrates where it went under the city walls and when the water was low enough soldiers waded underneath the wall and opened the city gates. The Persian army "poured" in and took the city.
I asked this question...and got an interesting answer.
What faults might the Lord find against our nation today?
One answered that we have turned from the Lord in so many ways...but added what we are turning back and cited several examples...
increased talk of the Lord in the news, opposition to laws concerning homosexuality and abortion, increase in athletes giving credit in public to the Lord...were just a few things cited...
so what do ya'll think?

Some people like to say a line in the sand is being drawn. But lines on the ground can be straddled a long time, so I prefer to say a fence is being built in the sand...and it's getting so tall people are afraid of the height.
As the End draws near, and it is quickly, there's no more 'fence sitting'. Society is choosing one side or the other, and strongly. As more and more are coming to salvation, animosity toward the Lord is growing by those who don't believe.

Yes, what we are seeing is a polarization . . . the best example of which is our own American political system. No matter how you cut it, the left hates the right and they both know it. Put a dem and a pubbie in a room and you can see the steam coming out of their ears in no time. It is so bad that lately political races are not the result of who gets the most votes - but which side can cheat the best. I merely have to point to Nevada and Harry Reid for an example.
And believers are not so much believers, but right wing, which feeds into the political malaise. If a person is a Bible believer, there is very little possibility that he is anything other than a republican, and this also feeds the hatred of the left.
To be a Democrat in today's society, one must believe in abortion (including partial-birth and closet) and expanding homosexual rights, both of which no person that believes the Word of God can abide.
If the left ever got the ultimate power they desire, we would see a return to Nazism and gulags for those on the right, and they will get that power, right after the salt of the earth and the Holy Spirit depart from the scene.
(People argue that the Holy Spirit can not truly leave . . . but prior to Pentecost, the Holy Spirit did not maintain an earthly presence, so the Rapture will actually be something of a reversal of Pentecost).

That is a point that many people argue Virgil. They point to a passage in Revelation that I can't call to mind...and say that the Holy Spirit will operate during the Tribulation and Mill. period much like He did in OT times...
I think ya'll are right and that was what I threw out in the discussion...what we are seeing is people choosing a side...
as time passes, it is going to become more and more like tying the tails of 2 cats together and throwing them over a clothes line...
there is gonna be a fight.

I guess I'll know that I've been here long enough when I know you folks by your real names and not just by your handles. Now Keith, I'm acquainted with him somewhat. There's Virgil. Is there a Marilyn in the room?
I don't believe I could describe it any better....2 cats tied at the tails together over the clothes line. That's about what it sounds like from whatever cable news channel I have on. (Is it a sin not to have Fox on all the time?)
It's true that it would be difficult to defend a party affiliation other than Republican...maybe... an Independent? But we're standing on God's norms and standards out of the Word of God which actually draws a harsher distinction than even the Tea Party tries to do. "As the End draws near, and it is quickly, there's no more 'fence sitting'" against Satan's world system.
We must always stand above the fray in at least one sense: a right thing done in a wrong way is still WRONG! Discuss among yourselves... :-)
"For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified" (1 Corinthians 2:2).

Here's another verse that sort of sets the tone (back to our discussion)
"But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these" (2 Timothy 3:1-5).

Many people are beginning to fall apart around us. Hubby and I were talking about this over the weekend; we are so thankful that we have God in our lives. I just can't find the words to put it any other way.
I guess one can say "you made your bed, and now you get to sleep in it".

or it's your little red wagon so you have to pull it.
Things that were unheard of in my grandparent's day today are common place. People living together before marriage...for instance. I am sometimes amazed even in the chruch community how that is an accepted thing...
not to mention the number of women who are having children outside of marriage...and have no intention of getting married.

hadn't thought about it but even though we are seeing sides in this things gel up...people still don't quite get it right...
having the appearence isn't the same thing as living the life of a Christian...is it?
If you say you are a Christian and accept co-habitation without challenge or having babies outside of marriage as examples...and treat it as a normal accepted practice...
am I getting too judgemental?

am I getting too judgemental? Not at all! One of the most misinterpreted verses in Scripture is “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” (Matthew 7:1)Christians can judge as long as it's righteous judgment with the Bible as our benchmark: “Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” (John 7:24)
“But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.” (1 Corinthians 2:15)
“Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?” (1 Corinthians 6:3)OK, back to topic! ;D

I think in many ways we mirror Babylon. We are arrogant, think we are indestructable and feel like we should police the world. We are one of the greatest countries in the world but we have forgotten our roots. Our REAL roots. We have turned our back on God and His laws. Criminals are protected and we find excuses to say "oh the poor things look what happened to them. No wonder they turned to crime". We glorify money, fame for it's own sake, power, corruption. While we are busy with this, children go to bed hungry, victoms cower in thier houses fearful to go out, corrupt businesses line thier pockets while their workers struggle to put food on the table. I might see how the Lord could find some pockets of light (and Lord let us be one of those) but for the most part.............we should by rights be just as Babylon. Desolate and punished.

Prayer of Abraham. Lord, would you save the land if there were ___ righteous people left? Amen Duck,Yes there is corruption and wickedness in this country as in all countries.Nations rise and fall and yes this nation could fall, but it would be for many reasons. We are in a (Grace period) and God is calling out and forming the Bride for His Son and she is mixed through all the nations. There are righteous people in all nations and some of those nations rise and fall and the righteous remain.God said He would bless and curse individuals and nations in His promise to Abraham and that could be a reason for the rise and fall of nations and individuals. God puts up with a lot during this period of Grace and He will continue too until the Bride is complete and is removed, then He will bring judgement on the nations during the Tribulation, which is one of the purposes of that period. I just praise Him for the blessings we do have and the freedoms we do have in this great nation and if it was to fall before the Bride is complete and taken out or if we go to be with the Lord by way of the grave, the righteous will remain. PRAISE HIS NAME

There weren't enough to save Sodom and Gamorrah tho...Bud. And I don't think there are enough to save the United States. As much as we love this country I firmly believe it is in decline.
It may survive but not as a super power. As Keith has often said...the rapture will be the end.
