“ I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble. Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy” (Psalms 59:16-17). THE MORNING SKY
When I see the morning star Alone in the sky at dawn, The heavens swept clean and bare, And even the pale moon gone,
And a holy hush as though The Lord had just passed by, Worshipped and adored By earth and sea and sky,
The infinite peace of God Sinks into my fretted heart, The clutter and pull and din Of earthly things depart,
And my soul grows strong and tall, Erect beneath its load, As my stifled spirit breathes The breath of the living God!

“ For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land; The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away” (Song of Solomon 2:11-13). SPRING
We thank Thee, Lord, that Thou dost bless Us with this springtime loveliness,
These skies, the bluest ever seen, These fields and pastures tender green,
Where the cattle drowse and sleep, And the meadow grass is deep.
Countrysides in golden broom, Orchards all a drift of bloom,
Buttercup and daffodil, Grasses blowing on a hill.
We thank Thee for remembering Us with these gifts, this lovely Spring!

“ Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory” (I Peter 1:8). IMMANENCE
I have not seen God, but I Have watched the pageant of the sky.
Though I never heard His voice A lark's song makes my heart rejoice.
Breeze which stirs my hair with such Softness, are you not His touch?
I am finding out His ways In the ordered march of days,
And I've seen His tender grace Shining in a mother's face.

“ If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept” (I Corinthians 15:19-20). THE RESURRECTION
This is why birds carol in the dawn — A risen Christ, and death's dark terror gone!
This is why the lilies bloom in Spring, And earth is busy with her burgeoning.
This is why, my Lord, I know that I Shall see Thy face some day —ah, this is why!

“ Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen” (Ephesians 3:20-21). MY SAVIOUR
Because He is God He can touch the throne, Because He is man He can touch my hand; Because He is God He can succor me, Because He is man He can understand.
Because He assumed the form of flesh He knoweth my frame, that I am weak; Because He is God He can give to me Abundantly more than I ask or seek.

“ Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God” (Hebrews 3:12). WHEN TO ME
When to me The sea is only water, The sky is only air, Mountains only earth heaps Scattered here and there;
When to me Love's a trick of nature, Money's just to hoard, The flashing of a child's smile Leaves me only bored;
When to me Christ is but a teacher, No cross, no Olivet, God's a force once started And somehow running yet —
Then to me Send Thy swiftest death stroke — Flesh can know no dread Of final parting From a soul long dead!

“ And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein” (Isaiah 35:8). WAYFARER
I need Thee so, my Lord! I am a poor Tired mendicant come knocking at Thy door.
I need Thee so, my Lord. I am too weak To struggle on, Thy strengthening power I seek.
I need Thee so, my Lord. I am too blind These labyrinthine ways of life to find.
I need Thee so, my Lord. I am too worn To fight without Thee, and my heart too torn.
I need Thee so, my Lord. I am too prone To sin, but Thou canst save me, Thou alone.
I need Thee so my Lord. I humbly pray Thy Spirit will go with me all the way.
I need Thee so, my Lord. I cannot see How once I walked, nor knew I needed Thee!

“ Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass” (Psalms 37:7). REST IN THE LORD
Rest, weary one, did you not know That there is rest for you below, Or did you think that you must wait Until you enter Heaven's gate
To lay your burdens at His feet And rest at last? O hark how sweet, Within the pages of His Word, The promises our tender Lord
Gives to His own! . . . “Come unto Me, And I will give you rest, all ye That labour.” How the precious theme Of rest, as lovely as a dream,
Shines from these pages! “Ye shall find Rest for your souls,” for weary mind And heart. “For we which have believed Do enter into rest.” Received,
Appropriated now! He too Trod weary dusty roads, He knew The weight of burdens, and the taste Of bitter tears, and He would haste
To help. He knows we cannot wait Until we enter Heaven's gate For rest and peace. He knows. And so He gives it to us here and now!

“ For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?” (Hebrews 12:6-7) DEAL WITH ME, LORD
Deal with me, Lord! If I am left alone I walk such foolish ways Till I am all undone.
Deal with me, Lord! Thou knowest all my need, My blindness, willfulness, My careless word and deed.
Deal with me, Lord! Unto Thy surgeon's blade I bare my secret heart, Nor shrink, nor am afraid.
Deal with me, Lord! Ah, tenderness divine, That cares to shape a soul From this poor life of mine!
Deal with me, Lord, Till some day, face to face At last with Thee, I'll find My chastening was Thy grace!

“ The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Revelation 4:10-11). JAMES GRIBBLE IN GLORY A pioneer Brethren missionary to Africa
What should I do with crowns, Lord, Only to cast at Thy feet? Bid me not come up higher, But give me a lowly seat
Where I can see Thy redeemed ones As close to Thy throne they press, No longer filthy and naked, But robed in Thy righteousness,
No longer lost in the darkness, But safe in their long, long home, Their glad hosannas ringing To Heaven's vaulted dome!
Lord of our fulfilled visions, Lord of our answered prayers, Thou Who hast never forsaken The soul that trusts and dares,
What was our little anguish, What was the grief we bore? Gone like the darkness at dawning, With the opening of a door!
Thine was the blood that bought them, Mine but a tongue that cried, Mine but a poignant longing That Thou shouldst be satisfied.
Bid me not come up higher, But O, it would be sweet, Should I be given a crown, Lord, To cast it at Thy feet!

“ Every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure” (I John 3:3). WHOSO HATH THIS HOPE
“Whoso hath this hope within his soul Doth purify himself.” O living coal
From off God's altar, burn my dross away, And make me fair and clean against that day
Of His appearing! Search my inmost heart For secret sin, and keep me set apart.
Apart for Him! . . . O soul, there comes a day When I shall be apart with Him alway!

“ Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else” (Isaiah 45:22). HE HEARS OUR CRY
God of the dawn of the ages, God of all future years, God of the winds and the waters, God of the whirling spheres; God of the storm and the tempest, God of the starry sky — God, I am calling to Thee; How canst Thou hear my cry?
God of the hearth fires rising, God of the little home, God of all gardens growing, God of the fragrant loam; God of the broken hearted, God, Who art very nigh, God of repentant sinners, God, Thou hast heard my cry!

“ O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come” (Psalms 65:2). PRAYER
O world, Toy ball hung pendulous in space, Where whirling planets wheel and race, And age-old suns dissolve and change With heavenly music sweet and strange, Where flashing splendors leap and blend, And time and space shall have no end!
O God, Majestic and omnipotent, Who made and rules the firmament — Vast starry solitudes where light Is lost in melody, and night Cloaks beauty lest it blind Thine eyes! God, what have we that Thou couldst prize?
A faint, far sound drifts up from earth, So small, can it have any worth? God listens, and the music dies, Silent and hushed the envying skies. Only a sob from a contrite heart, Yet, Lord, it shows me what Thou art: More to Thee that sob, those tears, Than all the music of the spheres!

“ This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:21-23). IN MEMORIAM
I never walk the sandy shore But that I think of Galilee, And how the One Who stilled the waves Can calm the storms of life for me.
I never gaze upon a crowd Without a sense of brotherhood, A thankful gladness that He had Compassion on the multitude.
I never seek my garden's peace And loveliness and ecstasy Without a poignant thought of Him Who suffered in Gethsemane.
I never see a lonely hill But that I think of Calvary Three crosses dark against the sky, On one the Lord Who died for me!
I never weep beside a grave In hopeless anguish for my dead; I see my blessed, risen Lord, And so my heart is comforted!

“ Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name” (Matthew 6:9). MY HERITAGE
Though I’m sojourning here, I'm a child of the King, The King Who is Lord of the earth and the skies, With infinite riches in glory, and yet He is mindful of me, and my least need supplies.
I'm a child of the King! In my Father's own house Mansions and ivory palaces wait. Why should I ever fear poverty's sting, I, who am heir to a princely estate?
I'm a child of the King, and He holds me so dear He has counted and numbered the hairs of my head; He has graven my name in the palms of His hands, “Thou art bought with a price, thou art Mine,” He has said.
My brief span of years is a watch in the night As I wait for the light of His dawning, and sing, “Through infinite ages, in mansions above, I'll praise Him Who made me a child of the King!”

“ I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place” (Psalms 118:5) GOD ANSWERS PRAYER
God answers prayer. I used to say, Why should I pray, An empty sound in empty air!
In pride I walked, Nor knew that He Trod paths with me, And to my stubborn heart He talked.
The blue sky smiled, The sun was warm; But came the storm, And wind and rain beat strong and wild.
The path led on Through dark morass And rocky pass, And then I stumbled o'er a stone!
There yawned a pit, All dark and drear, And foul with fear. I hung suspended over it.
And then I prayed! God stretched His arm, Plucked me from harm . . . Since then my faith on Him is stayed.
I daily pray, “Now I confess My waywardness, O Son of God, show me Thy way,
And guide my feet Past deep abyss And precipice: Thy paths are sure and safe and sweet!”

“ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight” (Proverbs 15:8). IS PRAYER TO YOU A TASK?
Is prayer to you a task, a duty? Ah, no, it is a thing of beauty, And a wonder and a glory Past our comprehension, for He
Gave a feeble, stumbling man a Giant's arm that, stretched, can span a Universe and reach to Heaven, Change a life, a world, and even
Haste the day of His appearing, Day of rapture, ever nearing! O blessed hour of power and beauty! Is prayer to you a task, a duty?

“ For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him” (Isaiah 64:4). PANORAMA
We always loved a hill, and so, In Paradise, Our feet will seek a path which climbs A swelling rise,
And there we'll sit all day, two rapt, Mused loiterers, And catch the faint, far music of God's choristers.
We'll watch the ordered march of suns, And far in space, The earth a distant, shining ball! From there we'll trace
With pointing finger and glad eyes The star-gemmed way Our freed, ecstatic spirits took That winge'd day!
And then, remembering an old Forgotten fear, We'll speak with shuddering breath, “Suppose We were not here!”

“ Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord” (I Thessalonians 4:17). THE RAPTURE
I am so small. It is so far Though Heaven's gate be set ajar, And loved ones there to greet me.
O tender thought of my dear Lord, I have the promise of His Word, He'll come part way to meet me!

“ God raised him from the dead: And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people. And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers” (Acts 13:30-32) GLAD TIDINGS
Weep not, ye broken hearted, His promise is not slack. The Lord of our adoring Is one day coming back.
The gates of Heaven tremble. All hushed the waiting sky. Earth's mountains bow before Him — His coming draweth nigh!
Open, ye starry heavens, Acclaim Him, sun and moon, Prepare a path of glory — Our Lord is coming soon!
