To me brother DB, it makes no difference whether it was a physical or spiritual ailment, as either is burdensome even though it can be used to learn perseverance. I look forward to meeting brother Paul and sharing stories. A good explanation for Paul's thorn in the flesh follows: "So that Paul would not forget, God allowed him to be inflicted with a constant reminder of his weakness. Countless explanations concerning the nature of his thorn in the flesh have been offered. They range from incessant temptation, dogged opponents, chronic maladies (such as eye problems (Galatians 4:15), malaria, migraine headaches, and epilepsy), to a disability in speech. No one can say for sure what his was, but it probably was a physical affliction (for the work of Satan in this, cf. 1 Corinthians 5:5; 10:10)."Source: Got Questions?org[/url]

Paul kept his eye on the prize, so to speak, and that enabled him to get through even the most trying times. Even when we have neither the strength nor the patience to persevere the Holy Spirit has both in abundance and they're free for the asking to those who believe.

;D ;D Sorry, Keifer. I had just finished reading a post by Sister Duck on another thread and it was stuck in my mind (what little mind I have left, that is).

On call this week and this is the first chance I have had to put in my "2 cents" worth...with inflation and recession is "my 2 cents" worth 2 cents anymore?
Have wondered what Paul's thorn in the flesh was. Always makes me think of "pain in the butt." I know the Lord is gonna git me for that and for the Jeremiah was a bull frog thing.
Anyway. Have you ever noticed that the thorn was "given" to Paul...? not inflicted, or thrust upon, but given. Almost as if it is a gift or privilege....
"...there was given to me a thorn in the flesh..."
Paul had just described being taken up into the 3rd Heaven and seeing things and hearing things that most people haven't had the privilege of seeing or hearing...Paul also had the privilege of revealing many mysteries to us...in addition to being an Apostle to the Gentiles...
I always took the thorn in Paul's flesh to be a physical ailment of some kind...and was meant to keep him humble...
"And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure."
