20 years ago on 9-11
Was at Emerald Isle, NC with my family. It was a beautiful sunny morning, was sitting out on the porch, and I had just thanked the Lord that we were blessed to live inside peaceful shores.
My sister leaned out of the door and said..."You better come inside, something is happening."
The Today show was reporting on a plane hitting one of the twin towers in New York City...they had no details, but there were shots of the building with fire coming out of the floors near the top of the building.
As we watched we saw the second plane approach and hit the other tower and immediately it struck me. We are under attack by someone.
We watched the footage being broadcast by the Today show and I saw an image that has never faded from my brain. A man in a business suit holding a briefcase had jumped from the second tower...jumped to his death holding a brief case. Have never seen that footage again...but can run it in my memory as vivid as the moment I first saw it on TV.
Then we all saw the second image that will never leave my memory...the towers collapsing. I knew there were hundreds and hundreds of people in the towers dying right in front of me and there was nothing anyone could do but watch.
As the day unfolded we saw a plane hit the Pentagon...and a plane crash in a field in Pennsylvania...
It was a dark dark day...but at the end of it there were American Flags flying everywhere. We were ready to go to war.
Those are my memories of 9-11.
