verses 6-8
is Repentance a one time deal at the time that a person accepts Jesus as Savior or does it happen several times during a lifetime?
Studying for the SS lesson on Sunday...appreciate your help.

I believe it is cleared up when one understands that there is only one saving faith and then a trusting faith. Saving faith, which includes repentance (a transaction from dead to alive, lost to saved) as a one time deal with eternal results.
Trusting faith, on the other hand, is what we live with daily and it is accompanying with a moment-by-moment type of repentance.
Salvation is compared to being born as a baby . . . which only happens once . . . and the doctor gave us one swift slap to get the oxygen working. But life doesn't end there, and our parents carry on the function of applying the board of education to the seat of wisdom as they point us in the right direction. Just put the chastening hand of God in the place of our parents as He moves us to repent where we fail Him.

so repentance can be applied to the repentance that happens when we are saved as a once in a lifttime thing...circumcision of the heart...
and then to the day by day repentance from the sins we commit after we are saved. We ask forgivness and turn from that sin...not do it anymore...repent.
am I understanding that correctly?

"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." (John 10:28)
Eternal is just that...eternal. Not 'till you sin again', but forever. When we sin after salvation we lose our fellowship with God, not our relationship. Repentance after salvation is for getting back into fellowship with Him.

not talking about losing your salvation...
talking about the sins we commit every day lying, cheating, stealing, adultry, drinking and drugging for example. Asking for forgivness for those sins and repenting...turning from them and not commiting the same sin again.
talking about 2 different things...

we are talking about original "sin" and the salvation that saves us...
and "sins"...that we commit every hour of every day until we depart this life for Glory.
I think, over the years, we have established that we believe that once we are saved we remain saved regardless...
But by the same token we continue to commit "sins"...battle between old man and new, temptations and surcoming to them...
we need to ask for forgivness for those "sins" and then repent or turn from them...not commit the same sin again thinking we can keep sinning the same sin...over and over again. We need to repent and turn from those sins.

is Repentance a one time deal at the time that a person accepts Jesus as Savior or does it happen several times during a lifetime? I guess I said it wrong. We repent daily to stay in fellowship with God because we sin daily. Does that answer your question?

Went well in SS today and we had a good crowd in spite of the weather.
Didn't stay for church...sleeting too hard, too far to drive, and several bridges to cross...

I am glad it went well, too, Duck.
Sounds like you did an excellent job explaining. And pointing towards Jesus!
