On this week's edition of "The Hal Lindsey Report," I'll discuss why the upcoming election may bring America more than just a new President. Last week, Joe Biden issued a warning (inadvertently, I'm sure, unless he was trying to prepare us for future incompetence) that the election of Barack Obama will guarantee an international crisis. You'll hear his warning and I'll discuss the historical precedent that makes me think he may be right.
To put it mildly, I'm not a great fan of the United Nations. A story from the Washington Post confirms that my distaste for that completely useless and ultimately subversive organization is well-founded. But that's just my opinion!
Four U.S. helicopters struck a terrorist 'roadside rest area' about 5 miles inside Syria last week. Word has it that a top al-Qaeda figure may have been captured or killed. I think President Bush may have been sending Syria and its buddies a message: "Just because I'm outta here in 90 days, don't think I've forgotten who you are and where you live!" That pinpoint lightning raid must have stepped on some sensitive toes. Syria is raising a howl (more than it raised when Israel bombed its nuclear plant); Iran is raising a howl; and Lebanon is raising a howl. The one thing they all have in common? They are all state sponsors of terrorism! Don't you just love it when the ones who are wreaking the damage go into a pitiful rage when they get a pinprick back? They can dish it, but they can't take it. Go, George W!
Let me just put it this way: every time I hear a story about this organization I think, "Does the nut fall far from the tree?" On the eve of the election, I'll review just a bit of the controversy over ACORN and why it poses a danger to our electoral process and, maybe, our nation's future.
It's a good news/bad news deal. As I predicted several weeks ago, Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni has failed to form a government within the Knesset. This week, President Shimon Peres called for early elections. That's the good news. Maybe the next leader of Israel will put a stop to this 'land for peace' madness. Between now and mid-February, however, Ehud Olmert will remain in power. That's the bad news. He's determined to give away huge chunks of Israel to the Palestinians before he leaves office. And with President Bush seeking to grab some sort of 'legacy credit' before he leaves office, the danger is multiplied. As never before, it's time to earnestly pray for God's protection of His land and His people.
Finally, I want to take a few minutes and share with you my thoughts on the General Election next week. I'm calling it "The Election of Destiny" because I believe that more important, history-making, future-determining decisions will be made this Tuesday than in any other election in our nation's history. I know that sounds melodramatic, but that makes it no less true.
That's why you and I, as conscientious citizens and Christians, need to be studying the particular issues and candidates we'll be voting on next week. We'll be making life-changing decisions, so we need God's wisdom and His guidance. Don't fail to pray. Don't fail to vote. I believe that if you do, you'll fail God. He can only use your vote if you cast your vote.
May God bless and protect America.
