"Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." 2 Timothy 4:2-4
I have run into this more and more. I quote the Bible and am told, "we don't want to hear that, we want outside sources."
Well, I don't have any more reliable than the Bible. How would you respond to that without getting into a long drawn out unfruitful debate?
Would you walk away or what? 2 Timothey 4 is what occurs to me...
The next verse reads, "But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry."
How can you without the Bible to convice and convince?
"Faith cometh by the hearing and hearing by the Word of God."

even professing Christians reject the word in that they accept some of the liberal writings bold outright without even consulting the Bible for what it says.

I know I am just the page turner and am there to spread the message and that it is the work of the Holy spirit to convict...but it is very discouraging when you can't even say the Word without shutting people down.

I have run into this more and more. I quote the Bible and am told, "we don't want to hear that, we want outside sources." I'm running into that more and more too Marilyn. Some so-called Christians are falling for the most outlandish stories from other so-called Christians. You can give them chapter and verse to see the contradiction their story has to the Word of God, and they say 'Maybe God has changed His methods.'[glow=red,7,700]HOGWASH![/glow] God does not change (Malichi 3:6). So they ask why someone would tell such stories while claiming to be a Christian. Jesus told us why: "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect." (Matthew 24:24 KJV)God's Word provides a litmus test for just such stories: "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world." (1 John 4:1 KJV)That means if something doesn't line up exactly with the Bible, it's false, but these people still refuse to believe what the Scriptures say on the subject of their story. So why would these so-called Christian folks be led astray so easily by these false teachers? Yep! The very Scripture you originally offered sister: "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. (2 Timothy 4:3-4 KJV)The witness that we offer is becoming less and less accepted. God is drawing a line in the sand and gathering His Church.
