This is our friends 18 year old grandson that was in the horrific car accident that I asked for ya'll to agree in prayer with us for him. He is a
**MIRACLE**
He was not expected to live, and they said if he did, they weren't sure how much brain function he would have...I would say Jesus is still a miracle worker. Thanks for praying.
Rylee update Day 44 & 45
"Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him." Psalm 34: 8
Rylee is making great improvement. Since my last update Rylee is off the ventilator officially. It has even been taken out of his room. He is now breathing 100% on his own power through his trach with humidified oxygen (he no longer needs the O2, just the humidity per the doctors). This is called a trach collar. He has been on this now for over 72hrs and is doing great. He has progressed with clearing his lungs by coughing up all kinds of goobers out of the trach tube. His coughs are strong and deep and getting better each day.
They continue to overhead hoist him into a chair daily for sitting up time.
He has also sat on the edge of the bed with both feet on the floor holding himself up unassisted.
He stood up for the first time in 6 weeks on Tuesday with the help of several people and a "standing table" device from physical therapy. It was so good to see him up and standing tall again. He stood up again today with this sane device. He continues to get stronger.
Tuesday he was able to go outside for a few minutes for the first time in 6 weeks, in a wheelchair, but he was outside. It was a little bit overwhelming for him at first, but in the end he calmed down and agreed it was good.
Rylee is still struggling with something that is making his sodium, and calcium high. His kidneys are functioning, he is producing the appropriate amount of urine, but something is causing his levels to be off. The team of doctors are not exactly sure what the cause is but they have a theory and are treating to that theory as they run more blood and urine test. Things are improving which is good.
Today he got a new trach tube in order to help him to start speaking, drinking and eating. Unfortunately he was not able to pass the swallowing test that would have allowed him to start eating and drinking. He also did not pass to be able to speak either. There is too much swelling.
With this he does not have function of his facial muscles...the one that can make you close your lips or smile or frown or....
He will have to keep working to get them functioning and strong again
His brain function is progressing quickly. Things are coming back. He is able to write us and his nurses notes to tell us things, it's shaky but we can read it. He fully understands things we ask him. He just keeps getting better and better.
In the next couple of days he will be moved directly from the ICU to an outside rehab facility. Everything is in place, we are just waiting for a few small improvements. This is a huge move for him and should help to get him back to normal and home faster...which we are desperately wanting.
Prayer request
- Facial muscles to function normal
- muscles and function for swallowing to be normal
- expedited strength to his muscles for walking, mobility and independence
- brain function to continue to improve and back to normal
- Lungs to be normal
- Kidneys to be normal
- healing of all broken bones and fractures
Thank you all again. I am grateful and thankful for all your prayers and support.
