"Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled." Matthew 24:34
"Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done." Mark 13:30
What generation is Jesus talking about?
I have read and read and been told and told and can never remember. I know what I think but how do ya'll read those passages?

Most commentators (and I) believe that "generation" refers to just that-a generation. The generation in question is the generation that saw Israel become a nation.
I have also seen "generation" in these verses translated as "race". I just don't see Jesus speaking in general terms in this passage; He doesn't seem to be making grand generalities in the previous verses, and Jesus does not "hop, skip, and jump" around a subject when He talks!

What generation is Jesus talking about? Yes, as Donna said the generation which saw Israel restored as a nation. To begin His point Jesus gives the parable of the fig tree in verse 32. He was symbolically referring to Israel as the fig just as is done in Jeremiah 24 and Hosea 9:10
