Virginia Gov: ‘Ford’s Berry Hill Battery Plant Is a Front for the Chinese Communist Party’
Ford was planning a $3.6 billion plant for EV battery manufacturing, providing 2,500 jobs for the Berry Hill, Virginia, region. But Governor Glenn Youngkin told Ford to go somewhere else. That’s because Ford’s massive investment was being done in conjunction with China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology. It’s the largest battery manufacturer in the world.
In December, a Youngkin spokesperson told the Detroit News: “While Ford is an iconic American company, it became clear that this proposal would serve as a front for the Chinese Communist party, which could compromise our economic security and Virginians’ personal privacy.” Youngkin campaigned he’d bring economic development and manufacturing jobs to rural Virginia. He must not be aware that 13.1 percent of those living in Pittsylvania County, where Berry Hill is located, are under the poverty line, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
