Communicating to the Glory of GodI teach a class for freshmen at Reformation Bible College (RBC) on communication. It is meant to orient them to the RBC experience and to help them understand how to think clearly, write well, and speak persuasively. In addition to discussing how to write research papers, we also spend a lot of time talking about communicating in general. We do this because I want to instill in them the need for and the weight of communicating to the glory of God. On the first day of class, I tell them that by the time they finish at RBC, they will be among the most highly theologically educated people in whatever place they end up. Many of them aspire to be pastors and professors, so they will in those situations have other highly educated folks around them whose knowledge of Scripture and theology will match or exceed theirs. Still, when it comes to their home lives, their communities, and their churches, they will have more theological knowledge than the vast majority of people in their orbit. This matters because a great responsibility comes with that knowledge. Not many are called to be teachers, but all of us are called to use the gifts that have been given to us. Make no mistakeāa theological education is a tremendous gift. My students at RBC are called to use that gift in a God-honoring way. They are to use that knowledge for the benefit of the church and others around them. tabletalkmagazine.com/posts/communicating-to-the-glory-of-god/
