New Quarter and new book to study...Romans...exciting!
About seven years ago, much to my suprise...my new church asked if I would teach a SS class. I thought it was going to be one of the children's classes...no easy task...but the class they had in mind was my own class.
It is a ladies class of about 12 people. The number present each Sunday fluxuates because almost all of the ladies teach other classes too or are substitutes...
Took me a while to realize the weight of teaching a class made up of other SS teachers...I best get it right! So I do alot of study...and have loved the study part.
To make a long story short...one of the SS ladies is always joking about my going down "bunny trails," so to make a long story short...seven years ago the first quarter that I taught...the book was Romans.
So ... here is the question...if somebody asked you how would you answer?
"Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God..."
How did Paul know he was an apostle?

God told Ananias that Paul was to have a special ministry to the Gentiles
"But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel" (Act 9:15).
Even Peter and the other apostles acknowledged that he was sent to the Gentiles, and we see his equality in office with Peter (take that Catholics!)
"But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man's person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me: But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:) And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision" (Galatians 2:6-9).

Asked that question backwards Virgil...
How did people know Paul was an Apostle?
We have men today and some women who claim to be preachers...and who claim to be Christians...but are about as much so as trunips...
so how did people know Paul was and is an Apostle?

Through signs and wonders . . .
This is where much of the "charismatic" world has their thinking backwards,
"How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?" (Hebrews 2:3-4).
Those marks of authentication proved that a man was what he claimed to be, and they passed away with the completion of the canon of Scripture.
It helped, though, when he received the "right hand of fellowship" from Peter and the gang . . . which showed that they recognized him as well, and that word certainly got around quick.
