I will keep working here on earth, until my Lord returns. I love to take care of those around me, but I long to see my Lord.
I don't understand anymore why someone would want to stay here on earth with all the things going on at this time.
I also don't want to get eaten by a pit bull (now that is an occupational hazard for me).

Hey Duck!
I am working on a book about the life of Sam Jones. Here is a blurpet you might enjoy.
(Might even look this up in the history section of your local library and see if it is interesting).
In Virginia he visited Roanoke, Danville, Lynchburg, and Richmond. In Danville, where an immense auditorium was erected and named “The Sam Jones Tabernacle,” he completely revolutionized the life of the people. One of the most notable results of that meeting was the consecration and call to the ministry of Mr. James E. Schoolfield, a prominent hardware merchant and cotton manufacturer. He immediately entered upon the work of the ministry as an evangelist and preached all over the South, paying his own expenses, and became one of the most successful soul-winners of his day. He attributed his change and call to the ministry to the evangelist. A few years ago he laid down his armor and preceded Mr. Jones to his heavenly reward.

There is an area in Danville today that is called Schoolfield. There is a big park there called Ballou Park. I spent many many a happy hour on pretty sunny days in that park studying when I went to Averett University. Don't know if the Tabernacle is still there...probably is long gone.
I live about 20 or so miles away from Danville in the next county over.
Thanks for posting that. It was very interesting.

Reading Exodus 20 today and noticed something I had not seen before...look,
"Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee."
"that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee..."
"upon the land"...it was speaking of Israel but today it also applies to any land.
Today in the United States we are seeing and have been seeing for quite sometime a breakdown in family units. We are watching children become little monsters with no respect for their parents for other people in authority...
our days are not long for this land.

Today in the United States we are seeing and have been seeing for quite sometime a breakdown in family units. We are watching children become little monsters with no respect for their parents for other people in authority... our days are not long for this land. Great point and I just figured I get out of my lazyboy long enough to turn a few pages and golly - looks like Paul agrees. " Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth" (Ephesians 6:1-3). Being this is in the NT and applies to the church - and how interesting that rather than "land", Paul uses "earth" to show the universality of the truth, I would say that the principle of the promise applies to any one in any generation, and the U.S.A. is included. Sadly though, since we have seen a generation from about the 60's that have done practically nothing but rebel against and distance themselves away from - their parents - in order to be "cool" and acceptable to friends, this promise is become a curse in the sense that we are probably about to lose our land in the earth. Sad. People too stupid to recognize that God is bigger than His Word and His promises mean something.

on a nutter subjek - I am about to become something of a stepfather or godfather or distant uncle or some such as we have a "DUCK" that decided that she liked our shrubbery enough to lay 8 eggs under a bush by our front door. (She almost ate my grandson who happened to ring to doorbell - but he escaped with his legs undevoured).
She has been nesting them now for a couple of weeks. I like just watching her, and how she perks her head up at the slightest sound and does a security sweep of the area oncet an hour or so - just to be sure.
I also like the fact that the neighbor's noisy dog that likes to leave presents on our lawn won't step of his porch in mortal fear. 'specting that he probably met the mad mom.

Christians pray and we pray about all kinds of things. Sometimes it is because we have bothersome question and are asking for answers. I had such a question and so asked the Lord why it is that so many people will bold outright reject the Lord Jesus even after they hear about how He sacrificed Himself on the Cross for us that horrible day on Calvary. I asked the Lord why? Why do they hate You so when all You did was die for us and our sins? And then rose from the dead so that we also may follow in resurrection? Why is it so difficult for people to grasp that and believe? One night I woke up and couldn’t go back to sleep so turned on the radio thinking some music would help. The radio was set to the Liberty station and there was J. Vernon McGee preaching. He was telling a story about a farmer who had forgotten to feed the animals in his barn. It was after supper and dark, so he grabbed his lantern and went out to the barn. He opened the door and the light hit the floor. Rats ran for cover. They ran to the backside of the barn away form the lantern light and hid under the straw and back in the dark reaches. The farmer walked further into the barn and the light hit the birds perched up in the rafters and they started to sing. The difference between the rats and the birds J. Vernon said, is what happens when the light hits them. The rats will always be rats and will run for the darkness because they hate the light. The birds will always be birds and when the light hits them will sing to the Glory of God their Creator and Redeemer! ”And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” John 1:5 I am grateful to the Lord for answering my prayer but have respectfully requested, if He would, to please anwer in the daytime...

Sometimes the night time is the best time to speak to us - He has our complete attention:
"The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage. I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons" (Psalms 16:5-7)
and doncha just love J. Vernon McGee! I love to ride the old Bible bus. Did you know that you can download his entire 5 year program for free? on his web site.

I didn't know that. I will have to go see, thanks! ...and yes! I do love J. Vernon McGee. Have several of his commentaries.
When you listen to him talk it is hard to believe he had a PHD. He sounds just like you and me...well, with his southern accent, maybe just me.

The secret...well kept by all Southerners. Why, it is so secret that we don't even tell ourselves. In other words, I forgot.

Sunday afternoon a fellow that I went to High School with and had known for years was attaching his bush-hog to his tractor. It was a beautiful afternoon and I suppose he thought it would be a good way to get outdoors and enjoy what remained of the day. As he was attaching the bush-hog to his tractor somehow it went into gear and ran over him. He died shortly thereafter.
I know when Vandie woke up on Sunday and got breakfast, went to church ,and came home, that actually going home was the last thing on his mind. He was busy living his life and enjoying a peaceful Sunday in Southside Virginia.
I have been thinking about that, thinking about how fragile our lives here are. I know that most of you will think of New Testament passages but I love the Old Testament, always have, so it is Isaiah that comes to my mind and this beautiful passage,
"The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever." Isaiah 40:6-8
Amen. There is peace in that thought.

But as with so much of the Old Testament you can find the mirror reflection in the New Testament.
"Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. " 1 Peter 1:22-25
Amen, and good night world. If I die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.
