Matthew 6:
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
I was just reminded of Acts 3:6 where Brother Peter said to the lame man, silver and gold have I none, but such as I have give I thee."
In this day and age it sure can seem like there are a whole lot more days then there is paycheck to go around. Often the yearning is for a simpler day and time many years ago when the weekly paycheck we received was $110.00, but would support a family of four, buy a brand new car for $4000.00, a quality home for $15,000.00, a weekly supply of groceries for a twenty dollar bill.
There seems like at times our pockets are empty and there is so little we can do to bless the hearts and lives of others. The one who has placed their faith and trust in Christ, has wealth beyond their wildest imaginations. Not worldly riches, but eternal treasures stored in an imperishable treasure house in Glory.
1 Cor. 13:
1If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
We can love the Lord with all of our heart, mind, and soul, and we can love others as we would love ourselves. As we go through the day we can be a source of love and encouragement to those we meet, with our own source being He Who dwells within us, Who is greater than he who is within the world.
As we go through the checkout stand, we can smile and speak encouragement to the one operating the cash register. Those we meet, our neighbors along life's path can be encouraged and complimented. We can reach out in pure love to those who are going through a day of trial, an hour of stress and testing. How often do we have the opportunity to place the well-being of others before ourselves?
We can show such pure love to each of our own family. We can turn to our dear-one and tell them how precious they are and how much we cherish them. We can hug our children and tell them how much we love them at so many moments during the day. We have so many chances during the day to place a loving hand on shoulder, look them in the eye and say, "You are so very precious to me, and I love you with all of my heart!"
Silver and gold have I none but such as I have give I thee. How much we have at our daily disposal which we can bestow upon others and bless the many hearts along life's pathway.
