None of this satisfied Core. He was jealous of Moses and Aaron. He was jealous of God's Prophet and God's anoined High Priest. He couldn't understand why he couldn't be a priest.
He found allies in Dathan, Abiram and the Rubenites and he led them in a rebellion against Moses and Aaron. Core had distained what God's own word had to say about the spiritual leadership of Israel and its order of service. "One man is as good as another" was his philosophy and he considered that he was just as good as Moses and Aaron.
He was a rebellious apostate and considered himself every bit as qualified to interpert the Scriptures, lay down the law, provide leadership and direction for the people as Moses and Aaron.
God's judgment was not long in coming. "The ground clave asunder that was under them: and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up..." Numbers 16:31-32.
The sons of Korah escaped that fate by disassociating themselves from their father's apostacy. Numbers 26:11. They later became prominent in the Lord's service and wrote several of the Psalms.

The liberals and apostates...this new post-modern movement in the churches today, seems to have succeeded where Korah and his group failed. These modern day counterparts have seized control of a large number of seminaries, churches, and denominations. They speak like the end all and know all on all matters of faith and morals. They have absolutely no regard for God's Word and treat it with contempt, cutting it to pieces, trying to post date parts of it, attributing it to all sorts of erroneous people...picking and choosing what to believe and what to throw out as erroneous...and on and on I could go.
Like Korah they claim all congregations are holy, everyone of them. They condone all forms of rebellion against the truth of God. They have packed the leadership positions in the professing church with unsaved people. They have filled the churches calendars with services unknown in the New Testament. They despise evangelicals and fundamentalist with a passion and view them us narrow, ignorant, intolerant people.
In Korah's case God's judgment was swift and sure. But that was because God intended to make an example that would stand for all time. His judgment shows what He thinks of the intrusion of unsaved people into leadership roles in the church.
Those who involve themselves in the service of God without a calling, who treat the ministry as a profession rather than a high calling, openly lead astray both the saved and unsaved, will one day discover that God has not lost His displeasure of their intrusion, and that His judgment, though a long time coming, will be even more harsh and a horrify and terrible thing to face.

We would all do well to listen to the wise words of King Solomon,
"Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil" Ecc. 8:11
The ungodly seem to be having their way. But in the end God will settle all accounts in full.
Amen.

''These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever." vs. 12-13
Now Jude turns to how apostacy looks by examining three aspects of how it looks. It is amazing to read these written so long ago and now so much more fully developed in churches and people today.
First look at the phrase, "These are spots in your feast of charity, when they feast with you feeding themselves without fear."
In Jude's day eating together carried much more significance that it does today. In those days in Eastern countries, to sit down at the table and eat with someone implied a bond of friendship and fellowship. Some cultures today still consider "a covenant of salt" to be sacred. As a rule, Orientals would never "break bread" with someone they intended to betray
One example of this betrayal is found in 1 Chronicles 27:33-34 and Psalms 41:9. These passages are about the betrayal of David by Ahithophel even though David had so often entertained Ahithophel at his table.
Another example is Judas Iscariot...

Some notes on Jude. The wrong kind of people had come among God’s people: ‘certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you...godless men...’(4). Such people do not like to hear the words, ‘The Lord rebuke you’. They ‘speak abusively against’those who speak the Word of the Lord to them (9-10). God’s Word warns us against such people: ‘In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires. These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit’(18-19). With people like this around - life gets like a ‘minefield’. You never know where the next “explosion’is going to come from! How can we ‘stand tall’and not be dragged down by this kind of thing? ‘Keep yourselves in the love of God ’- He ‘is able to keep you from falling’(21,24).
