My clinic cat urinated on the microscope so I am cleaning it. I don't know how I missed this. Never was much of one for microscopes...or cats for that matter. ;D

Just learned tonight another old friend left here going home. Maybe it is just something that goes along with getting older and one day it will be my time to go.
Knowing where we are going makes it easier but old friends departing still makes me sad.

Here also Marilyn. The son of one our our church elders, only 48 years old passed away Sunday morning, and the elder himself is terminal with Lukemia. And I just spoke to an old high school classmate who's Mother passed this weekend. I knew her well.
Yes, a sad beginning to the year.

I can't help but wonder sometimes, Keith, why some people die so young and still so full of life while others live so long that living is just existing to them.
Today was working at Good Samaritans. It is a place that serves people who need food or clothes. A man came in that I reconized from high school. He was very bright, and quite handsome, he was popular and looked like he had his foot in the fast track. That was 1965.
Today he was dressed in ragged clothes, was very skinny, and smelled very bad. He said he had just gotten out of the hospital a couple of days ago. He didn't seem to reconize me and I didn't ask, just helped him pick out some clothes, and helped him with some food to take home.
Can't get that out of my mind. What happened to him that brought him so far down? But that could have been any one of us, was my other thought.
Same question, why do some succeed while others fail, some with so much to live for, die so young while some live past the point where life is anything but a burden to them.
Why do tires on such a little car cost so much? Why is there no decent TV any more?

This year certainly is not starting very well: I will have to euthanize my Mom-in-law's old cat today, and probably my favorite cat this weekend. I feel stupid at times, because they are cats and not people, when I get so very sad over their deaths. But, I came across these verses yesterday:
[glow=red,2,300](Song of Solomon 2:10-13)
My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;
The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land;
The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.[/glow]
This world gets so dark and depressing at times, just like winter. Someday, sometime, our Saviour (who is the lover of our souls) will come to us and take us away. It may be through the Rapture, and it may be as we die. No matter what we will go to be with Him.

After the year got off to such a sad start things settled down into the steady rythum of winter life. In the country there isn't that much to do in winter but sit and enjoy the peace and quiet, and enjoy catching up on things indoors...things like reading, and favorite pass times...afternoons playing with grandchildren, and watching it snow, quiet evenings in front of the fireplace with a cup of coffee and a good book.
I have been thankful for these past few quiet weeks and time to slow down and reflect. Out walking with my dogs on the last few beautiful days and seeing the buttercups begin to show their first growth has reminded me that spring is coming. Walking past the shed and seeing the lawn mower reminded me of warm summer days of mowing grass.
It also reminded me that I need to enjoy the quiet because with the arrival of spring...quiet winter days will all too soon melt down into the warm and very active days of summer!
But thru it all I am thankful...just to be alive.

I have never been able to go by a bookstore without going in and the first shelves or tables I go to are the bargin books. Picked up a book last week that is now haunting to me. Title of the book is "Riven" and it is by Jerry Jenkins one of the writers of the "Left Behind" series. Paid $2.99 for the book...but the bargin isn't in the price of the book but rather in the thinking I have been compelled to put into the Price the Lord paid...for me.
It has given me pause to go back and revisit some of my own issues of faith...and ask questions and seek answers. To knock at doors...too long closed.
Caused me to sit silent and wait for answers...
It has been a long time since a book, outside of the Bible itself... hit me as hard as this one even though it is a work of fiction.
and am a firm believer that nothing happens by accident...
The book's main 100% human characters are a prison chaplin and a murderer sentenced to death...
The main character is the Lord, 100% human and 100% God.
Amen.

Well, I have come to the cave with a story to tell, and find myself at a loss for words!
It is a good story. My husband and I have had a couple young men cross our paths over the last few weeks, that now depend on us for help. We are glad to help them. Hubby and I were talking last night about how we truly care about both young men.
I had something profound to say. Oh well. We have new and welcome responsibilities. May God lead us and give us what these young men need!

Ok, I'll do my best. I am not able to say everything due to privacy concerns.
Andrew is the first. He is 24 years old. Hubby has nicknamed him "Sasquatch" because Andrew is so very tall and has big feet (that's a drill sergent for you!). Andrew has several rather severe mental health issues, and also has liver damage due to ADD medication he took as a child. He is single, no children (thank God!), and is content as long as he has enough money to pay the bills.
Tim is the second. He is 27 years old. He has 1 child and another on the way. One ex-wife. Tim also has a few rather more serious mental health issues. I like Tim's girlfriend. I haven't met Tim's ex yet, or his first child. Tim has not earned a nickname from Hubby yet.

I really like to help people. I like babies, but I don't feel really comfortable around babies or very young children. Teenagers have always been my favorite age. Even though teens are moody and hard to handle.
We did not want to have babies. Hubby and I had always talked about adopting an older child, so it has been a natural step for us to care for these two young men. They are rather adrift in this world; Tim was abused as a child and has several physical and mental scars, while Andrew has rejected his immediate family and turned to Hubby and I.
God works in mysterious ways. It is better that things happened so suddenly, or we might have worried about the situation too much.

Oh, and a young dog at each house. "Stan" and "Dozer" are very nice dogs.

I will keep you, your husband, and the whole situation in my prayers... Lord can give us some curious assignments sometimes...challenging, interesting. We know He knows what He is doing...and what we can handle.
So we just go with it. But be careful. I have worked with people with mental health issues.
