Back in 1989 Mrs DB, was diagnosed with spinal deterioration disease, discs that were all but gone and arthritis in the spinal column. The Dr. at the time told her she would never be able to have children, and that the wheel chair would also be inevitable.
As for that bit of information, and to show you what the Lord can do, she had Samantha in 1997, and Jacob in 2000.
Well, as time passed on her back became more and more of a problem. In the spring of 2005 the pain became almost un-bearable. We went to one of the best Dr.'s in our area, and the outlook was surgery. The bones looked as if they were literally crumbling. Fusion, two titanium rods, 4 screws, disc replacement, bone transfer, protein injections, and a re-alignment to the tune of 15 mm was done in Nov. of '05.
At that time the Dr. told her that " that would hold here for a while", but he did not know for how long.
We were very worried.
After the surgery the pain eased somwhat, and through a lot of exercising and weight lifting, Kim built up a good tolerance to the pain and was living very well, considering the hardware she was totin'.
About 5 months ago, she started to feel worse, thinking that it was a pulled muscle, we shrugged it off. It continued to get worse.
Recently, it had gotten so bad she discontinued the lifting and exercising , but continued to walk as she felt like it. Not wanting to tear something up because of the pain, she was worried something had went wrong or gotten out of place again.
My worse fear was the crumbling vertebrae had finally caught up with her and the reminding of the Dr. back in '89 was haunting my thoughts every day.
So we wound up at UVA this time to see one of the top 100 surgeons in the country, to see what he could find out.
A CT scan, MRI, and a Mylogram was ordered last thursday. Her appointment was today at 10:30 a.m. We arrived 30 minutes early and was called back as soon as she signed in. Dr. Whitehill came in and said hello and that he was going to look back over the tests one more time, then come and tell of his findings. To me, time stood still, I recalled the prayers being offered up for Sister Kim through the last months The prayer meetings every friday night, where she was lifted up in prayer as the ladies held hands, the weeping that could be heard as the burdens were lifted, and the rejoicing in the confidence of the power of God Almighty.
Dr. Whitehill returned, sat down, and told my wife there was nothing he could, nor would do to her back. I quit breathing, Kim's pupils had dialated. I knew there was two different paths of explanation that was about to be heard. I thought " Dear Lord help her!"
He proceeded to tell her that other than some minor bulging of some discs up near her neck, there was nothing else that would need his attention.
I felt the hair stand up on the back of my neck.
The prior surgery was all in place and solid as a rock. The fusion was strong and there was nothing that had moved in that area. However, he reasoned, that the pain she had been experiencing was coming from the nerves that had been displaced from the fusion of the vertabrae in her lower back. In his best advice, therapy, exercise, and tolerance would be the ticket.
Now, here comes what I had always read about and listened to for many years from seasoned saints that have seen firsthand the awesomeness of our Great Physician.
I asked the Dr. about the condition of the vertabrae that was deteriorating.
His answer:
..

.
.
.
.
" I did not see any. Her spine, other than where the surgery took place, looks good. I saw nothing of that in the scans that I have."
Back in 2005, I saw with my own two physical eyes the condition of Kim's spine, it scared me real bad, and i have been worried about it ever since. Today, one of the best in this country, who has seen all kinds of spinal disorders and diseses, sat there and looked at us both in astonishment, smiled, and told us " I did not see any deterioration"
" I'm sending you back to where you came from, I cannot do anything for you" Was the last comment he made on her case.
Dear reader,
I'm just an ol' country boy that has been saved since 1992. I've witnessed firsthand entire families coming under conviction and getting saved, I've recently seen one of the biggest drug abusers get gloriously saved and now asks others have they beenborn again.
Salvation is still, to me, the greatest miracle ever. But beloved as i write this post it is hard for me to keep clear enough eyes to type for the tears of amazement and love for my Lord who has shown this un-worthy family just how powerful He is.
I sit here in the presence of the Christ of Calvary... " who loved me and gave himself for me"
How can I explain His greatness? I'm at a loss of words, I thought i could finish this.. I'll try again later, I've got to enjoy my fellowship with my Saviour, Jesus Christ the Son of God..
Won't you join me in thanksgiving?/
Blessed be the name of the Lord!
DB.
